When someone steps into my office, they typically look composed and set to commence the day. Yet after seeing clients for an extended period, I recognize the truth lies beneath a polished exterior.
My client shares that yesterday evening, they had poured themselves "just one drink" to unwind following a stressful day. A single drink transformed into another, and then even more. That's a routine they've developed over time; a private ritual that enables the person "shut down" away from the overwhelming worries that consume their thoughts when the day ultimately winds down.
Increasing Phenomenon: Turning to Drinks to Handle Stress
This story reflects what I have been observing more and more often during sessions. Being a therapist, I have noticed a striking trend: a growing percentage of people who using drinking to handle their stress.
Studies reveals that about over a third of adults who used alcohol admitted doing so to relieve pressure and nearly one-fifth to manage anxiety.

We exist in a time of termed by experts as contemporary stress triggers. Rarely have we been so persistently informed of problems, conflict and instability. Even when we disconnect our devices, the worries persist of financial strain, employment uncertainty, environmental concerns and mental exhaustion that comes with being without control.
