Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
