Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' unit responsible for operational readiness.

History of Incidents
Since the beginning of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military officials have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.
This latest event comes after other serious incidents, for instance:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was died in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a device concealed on a scooter was detonated remotely.
While a informant earlier attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such claims are rarely publicly admitted as a matter of policy.
The conflict has been marked by clandestine operations extending into the center of the Russian capital.
The probe into General Sarvarov's death is still ongoing.
