Almost 55,000 homes have currently been affected by the storms, with their possessions and shelters damaged.

Persistent storms over the last seven days have intensified the extremely difficult situation of the vast number of evacuated Palestinians in the region, according to aid agencies.

"Terrible" Conditions Poses Serious Risks

A representative described the previous night's conditions as "terrible", with downpours so heavy that up to 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the streets.

"Last night was exceptionally terrible for the people. The downpours were so strong... And the winds were so forceful," noted the official.

There is significant anxiety that minors sheltering in temporary structures in soaked clothing will succumb to hypothermia and various sicknesses.

Deaths and Widespread Damage

Medical officials have stated that one baby has passed away from exposure and at least 11 other people have died in roof cave-ins triggered by the severe weather.

Other reports put a higher fatality count. Officials reported that multiple structures had totally fallen and many others had been partly destroyed.

  • Roughly 55,000 families harmed by rains.
  • More than 40 designated shelters submerged.
  • Countless residents forced to find new shelter.

Aid Operations Seen as Insufficient

Groups have escalated shipments of tarpaulins, blankets and clothing following the halt in hostilities began, but they stress there is remains not enough aid reaching those in need.

"Officials are working relentlessly to deliver that assistance and to hand it out, but the size of the requirements is so immense that we are faced with a great number of individuals and minors who are genuinely suffering each evening," stated one spokesperson.

Long-Term Issues and Ceasefire Terms

The second phase of the ceasefire includes plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the removal of military forces, and other provisions.

Relief organizations have underscored the need for "greater and continuous relief to meet pressing and future requirements."

The conflict was initiated by an attack in the autumn of 2023. Following actions have led to a substantial number of fatalities in the area, as per official data.
